Working in sessions
Each skill loads only the files its task needs. Short, focused sessions work best.
- Do one task, or a few related ones, per session. A focused session stays fast and cheap.
- Start a fresh session for a new task. Every turn sends the whole conversation again. An old
task’s history adds cost to the next one. In Claude Code,
/clearstarts fresh in the same window. - Watch the context window. If a task outgrows it, run
/ili-handoffand continue in a new session. The handoff carries the work over. Some agents summarize a long conversation on their own. A handoff is different: it is saved in the project, works on every agent, and stays after you close the window. - Mind the cache. Agents cache the conversation for a while. In Claude Code, that is an hour on a
subscription and five minutes on an API key. After a break, a long session reads all of it again
at full price. A fresh session that starts with
/ili-project-status ongoingoften costs less.
